The P.A.K.E.M.A-Girl Child Project

The P.A.K.E.M.A initiative promotes Girl-Child empowerment through educational programs we are conducting via our baseline and first project known as the P.A.K.E.M.A Mentoring Club. We invite young women mentors and speakers to visit the PMC schools we collaborate with and give talks of motivation and encouragement to the young girls in these schools. Some of the workshops we are carrying out are solely directed towards the female students. These workshops will help equip our P.A.K.E.M.A female students with the knowledgeable and educational tools they need to help combat some of the injustices the girl-child goes through in our societies today. These workshops and mentoring sessions involve activities that are aimed at challenging our students and promoting Leadership, Critical Thinking and Innovation among them; letting them take the ownership of this mentoring journey and also think of ways of combating the social injustices going on in their societies among other problems.

Main Objectives:
  1. The P.A.K.E.M.A Girl Child's Health & Care, Sanitary Kit

  2. Medicine, Science, Technology, Engineering, Math & Business Mentorship among P.A.K.E.M.A Mentoring Club female students. We are matching our P.A.K.E.M.A Girls with professional women in these fields of studies.

  3. The need-based scholarship for our students who meet the necessary requirements in PMC Primary & High Schools we collaborate with.

In the remote rural and slum areas there are some major personal needs for the girls especially health-wise and the need for sanitary towels is majorly important. Therefore many young girls in these remote areas cannot afford these and some are as well not knowledgeable of this condition. So many girls stay at home and don’t go to school when this happens to avoid the embarrassment, especially when they cannot afford the towels. Therefore we look forward to educating them about a woman’s health and care. These educational forums/sessions with the young girls will also highly encourage them to know that education is the key and highly encourage them to concentrate in school as they keep busy with activities we will be doing. P.A.K.E.M.A therefore looks forward to encouraging and holding panel discussions on human rights, film showings, discussions and reading groups. By inviting other key women leaders to some of the sessions we shall hold just for the P.A.K.E.M.A Girl-Child, will be a great way of inspiring and empowering them to be the change they would wish to see in their communities. The ultimate goal is to have no school drop outs and no early pregnancies among these students and instead help build a more active, intellectually diverse group of critical thinkers who are turning into great problem solvers, starting with themselves as they percolate their communities. We believe that women and girls are the true catalysts of the change we would like to see in these deserving societies and therefore when educated and empowered they will play a very big role in obliterating poverty and the social injustices they face. We will promote awareness about gender inequality, domestic violence, Malaria and HIV/AIDS pandemic.
